How To

How to make the Best Brandy Alex Recipe

The first step in making any cocktail recipe is finding the right ingredients. We're using Cognac to make this drink. It is a French spirit made from fermented grapes. It's usually clear, although sometimes you'll see it aged in oak barrels. You can purchase cognac from specialty liquor stores as well as online retailers like Amazon.com.

Next, add simple syrup. Simple syrup is simply sugar that has been dissolved in water. We'll dissolve 1 cup of granulated white sugar into a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely (about 5 minutes). To cover the sugar, add 2 inches of cold tap water. Let stand overnight. Strain out the sugar crystals through cheesecloth and discard them. The liquid can be kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to three weeks.

We will combine Cognac with simple syrup to make our Brandy Alexander Cocktail. Add the Cognac to a shaker. Top it with half a cup of ice cubes. Fill the rest of the way with simple syrup. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds and strain into a chilled martini glass. Finish the Brandy Alexander by adding a splash more soda water. Garnish it with a lemon twist.
